100 th INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY CELEBRATED
The Catholicate Centre for Women's Studies conducted a Conference on 'Women and Health' on 8 th March as part of the 100 th year of International Women's Day Celebration (1911-2011).
Dr. Lila Divaker, DMO (Pathanamthitta) inauguarated the Conference.Dr. Lata Marina Varghese, (Convener, CCWS) made the welcome speech. Dr. George Varghese, Principal of the College, presided over the function. He spoke on how women themselves aggravated their health problems leading to cancer by wrong methods of cooking, especially when they used teflon coated utensils and how women by burning plastics at home led to environmental pollution and thereby caused health hazards.
A special progamme was held to honour the Woman Achiever of 2011. Smt. Malethu Sarala Devi teacher, former alumna of the college and Ex MLA was honoured with a ponnada and a memento 'ATHULYA-Woman Achiever Award, 2011" for her humanitarian services, especially towards cancer patients.
Dr. Lila Divaker's keynote address was on 'Gender Based Violence' and its impact on women's health.
Prof G.John (Bursar) participated in the function. Christina Simon, Anu Mary Thomas and Sr. Ann offered felicitations and Lect. Jenni Mary Mathew proposed vote of thanks. The programme began with a prayer song by Nirmala Clemis. Minu Mohan was the compere.
